Tōseibo

Our work with Tōseibo has quickly evolved into a special bond after perceptual dialogues with the Danish based ceramic studio. What started as an gratitude for Tōseibos work with wild clay soon developed into a series of ceramics and flower vases and since culminated in a collection of cups by Longfei Wang and Tōseibo.

Tōseibo found the origin of the name for the cups in Chinese. Wu 五 means five and was originally a nod to the five elements of nature. Wood, fire, earth, metal and water. But a nod to the human senses too. Sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. We use our senses to taste, and a harmonious taste experience requires balancing the five flavors. Salty, sour, sweet, bitter and umami. Given the symbolic and practical meaning of Wu 五, Tōseibo formed a pentagonal cup for a harmonious experience with tea or coffee.

Tōseibo was founded by Longfei Wang known for the artist name Tōsei. Inspired by Japanese tradition of functional folk ceramics, Tōsei works with traditional techniques and wild clay, creating ceramics reflecting the elegance of the earthly material. The ceramics of Tōseibo has a unique earthly expression, and we are proud to have Tōseibo at our cafés.
