Sonny is the quintessential Copenhagen cafe by David and Sara; a modern hybrid coffee bar & eatery in the heart of the city. The original location is just off the main shopping street, attracting a steady flow of tourists and serving as a third space to loyal Copenhageners, many of whom become close friends of the house.
David
Born and bred in Copenhagen, David and Sara are your hosts at Sonny. David began working in restaurants at the age of 15, followed by a stint in Paris; taking inspiration from the culinary scene and encountering specialty coffee for the first time while working for renowned local roasters. Alongside his natural charm as a host and an astute sense of taste behind the coffee bar, David is ambitious and dreaming big on how to grow Sonny.
Sara
Sara brings her vast creativity to define the food and eatery aspect of Sonny. In a graceful and no nonsense fashion, Sara will often be found developing dishes for the menu, or adjusting and perfecting recipes for homemade cakes and bread. Sara’s hard work can be witnessed in the ever-changing menu of breakfast and lunch dishes, reflecting seasonal, local and organic produce.

Growth
We first shared our coffees with David and Sara at the cupping table, and immediately found a shared appreciation for quality. Our relationship was grown from here, built upon an honest conversation about taste and a shared pursuit to serve the best possible coffee at Sonny.
Last year, Sonny opened their new space in Frederiksberg. We are proud of our expanding relationship, supporting them with a bespoke coffee setup for the new location. The setup here boasts one of Copenhagen’s first Victoria Arduino Eagle One espresso machines, a Mahlkönig E80S GBW, EK43, and batch brew set up, for efficient, high quality and honest coffee servings.
As in the original location, a vital facet in ensuring consistent quality was finding the ideal water management solution to handle the hard local water in Copenhagen; in this case an Everpure Conserv 75 R/O system.
